April’s Featured Creators: Master Class Performing Arts

“It will push you out of your comfort zone and push you to be better.”

This month’s featured creators come from Master Class Performing Arts, one of our youth theatre residencies.

“I love theatre because it builds self confidence.”

This is the brilliant Leah John! Currently in 8th Grade at Meyers Middle School in Albany, Leah is all around talented! Theatre is just one of the many extracurriculars Leah is involved in, but she some how finds time to steal the stage in many of MCPA’s productions, including the character of Eddie in MAMMA MIA! We asked her why she loves theatre:

“I love theatre because it builds self confidence. It feels good to make people laugh and I love to entertain. It also brings people together. I have met many of my closest friends during theatre.”

My favorite thing about theatre is just…everything!”

Next is the talented Zoe Jaeger! Zoe is in 9th grade at Columbia HighSchool in East Greenbush. There is hardly a day of the week that Zoe isn’t rehearsing for a play or musical. She’s been involved in theatre since she was little, and seeing her perform its obvious this is her passion and calling–especially in the role of Lisa in MAMMA MIA! When we asked Zoe “Why theatre?”, she told us:

“Theatre means so much to me, it is so fun and you work with so many different people and make so many friends. It will push you out of your comfort zone and push you to be better. My favorite thing about theatre is just…everything! It’s impossible to pick just one thing because I love everything about it.”

“Theatre means community and family.”

Last but not least, we have the fearless director Andrew Higgs! Andrew has been involved in theatre for over 20 years, and has been directing for MCPA since day 1, two years ago. We got talking to Andrew about what theatre means to him, and he told us:

“Theatre means community and family. One of the most amazing moments as an educator is getting to watch students learn, excel, and bond through the process of theatre. With every show our family grows and strengthens. This is true for children’s theatre, community theatre, and even Broadway. We are very happy to offer such a fun and educational experience for our MCPA Family!”
